Curly Hair Diaries: My Current Curly Routine

CHD423 DSC_2529Oh yes honey! It’s that time again. It’s been a while since my last Curly Hair Diary, and I had a few requests to do a curly hair routine. I have to say, my routine changes pretty often depending on what products I have in stock. Seriously. I like to try new stuff. Also, I like to make stuff. Then, I love to dump that stuff and try new stuff again. I may have found my holy grail in these couple of products but then again…. (see, I have commitment issues). Oh, before we get into the routine, I’ve been thinking of getting into the YouTube game. It would be so much easier for you all to see the routine than read it. I’m not sure about vlogging for a number of reasons but if enough of you all think its pretty cool, I will do it (commitment issues aside). For now, here is what I use and how I use it after I shampoo and condition:

DSC_2532 First, I use this awesome super product by Kinky- Curly called Knot Today! It works so well to detangle my hair. Detangling can be a challenge. This makes it easier! I run a palm full through my hair, grab a detangling comb, and go to work.

DSC_2533While my hair is damp and detangled, I very generously pour this in the palm of my hand and run it through my hair using my fingers making sure to work it in from root to tip. If you follow me on Twitter or Instagram, you know Mixed Chicks and I have a little bit of a “Love- How dare you do this to me!” relationship. I mean, used alone, this product is good for at most 1 1/2 days. Then my hair feels crunchy and dry. :( OHHHHH but when it is mixed up…. things get a bit more romantic. Mixed Chicks in general gets a mixed review but I can’t give it up it works well with Knot Today and these other products. Still hunting…..DSC_2531La crèma de coco. Almost every curly has this oil. Got to have that organic extra virgin. This one is from Nutiva. I use it before and after a shampoo and condition. Rub a little in your hands and apply to the ends of your hair.DSC_2534I double oil. It works for me. It comes in a small bottle for a reason. I only use a little on my ends. This one is from Moroccan Oil.

So that’s it. I do not diffuse. I twirl or two strand twist my hair in 8-10 sections depending on my laziness. Let it air dry. Untwist slowly and fluff it out when dry. So far this routine last a good 3-4 days before it becomes a frizzy fro. Nothing wrong with a lil frizzy fro. :)

Let me know in the comments if you are interested in seeing me do videos on YouTube. I’d love to try it but only if you all think it’s a good idea.

  1. Hey! Just did my big chop about a month or so ago and am still looking for the perfect routine to get me thru the week.. The hardest part for me is overnight! Do you wrap it, sleep in twist, bonnet, silk pillowcase?! Oh and I think YouTube is a great idea!

    • Hey Jewel!! Thanks for commenting about YouTube. The way I sleep with it depends on my hair style. If I’m wearing it down I do the pineapple and throw on a silk scarf. If I plan to style it up or braid some of it I just use a silk scarf or grab a silk pillowcase. I will make a blog for sleeping with curly hair. Just for you! It’s a great question.

  2. Love curly hair so much. Mine is annoyingly straight & curls fall out so easily when I curl it. I should probably count myself lucky as some people with curly hair would probably love straight hair. I suppose you always want what you can’t have!

  3. Yaaaaayyyy curly-haired blogger! Haha I’m so happy to have found your blog – I too am a natural curly girl so I love seeing what other people do to their hair to keep it healthy. I am limited to twist outs because I’m lazy but I just love your natural curl pattern :) – beautiful!
